A design created with inferior material rapidly loses its value.  Plastics, plated light metals with their thin veneer and soft woods with a hard wood stain applied – these designs won’t hold their value.

The artisans at Chelsea Clock work with forged brass to create exquisitely beautiful clocks. Brass forged in the foundry.  An age-old technique of intense pressure to form a material of incredible density and weight. Just the right density for the artisans to shape and finish the piece flawlessly.  With a weight that says your Chelsea clock is a valuable work of art.

If a Chelsea Clock passes all the tests and inspections it has to pass before we ship it out, we register it. This isn't something Chelsea decided to do a few years ago, either. It's something Chelsea has always done. The first clock that was delivered to Shreve Crump & Low in 1897 was registered. Every clock delivered since then has been, too. That means that if a Chelsea clock comes back for repairs, Chelsea knows exactly when it was made, what procedures were involved and even who made it. That's one reason Chelsea has been able to guarantee consistent quality for over 100 years. It's why practically every President since the turn of the century has been a proud owner of a Chelsea Clock, too. And why Chelsea has always been and will always be the finest clock made in America.

Chelsea Ship's Bell Clocks

Chelsea Ship's Strike Clocks

The Chelsea name has been familiar to mariners for more than 100 years. The Ship's Bell Clock, introduced in 1901, has become synonymous with reliable timekeeping at sea.

The U.S. Navy outfitted hundreds of U.S. ships with Chelsea Clocks and is still an important customer of the company. The U.S. Naval Observatory, long the nation's master timekeeper and caretaker of the Navy's chronometers, recognized early on the reliability and accuracy of a Chelsea Clock, and has recommended Chelsea Clocks for generations.

Today yachts of every description look to Chelsea to provide reliable timekeeping under arduous marine conditions. The yachts of J.P. Morgan, Aristotle Onassis, and Bill Koch - 1992 winner of The America's Cup - and countless others around the world have relied on Chelsea Clocks.
